More Lack of Perspective

LZ Granderson wrote an op-ed on CNN today, about how (most) gays really don't get it, and how they don't know the kind of oppression that blacks do.

Please have a read. I posted a comment on the page (search for Nate from Seattle, WA), but I think it got censored (not the first time!). Here was the gist of it:

First of all, there is no black person who has endured 400 years of oppression, or anything else. The oldest black person I know of was about 110. Seriously. Grow up.

Secondly, Granderson can massage the facts all he wants, but it boils down to this: 70% of black voters in California voted to endorse the oppression in Proposition 8 last year. A majority of white voters rejected Prop 8.

Finally, the last time I checked, there's a black man in the White House. Good luck finding someone openly gay in that spot anytime soon. And gays have been oppressed from far before a single black man was taken from Africa, to work in the new world. Read the Old Testament.

I'd also like to point out that when not lecturing gays about how they don't really have it that bad, Granderson makes his living working as a very important journalist in the world of sport: just one more place where blacks just can't seem to get a fair shake.
