No More Sonics

This'll be a short one. The NBA season started tonight for the team that used to be the Seattle Supersonics. Now, it's the Oklahoma City Thunder. As tragic as the team name, colors, and logo are, this is a bigger tragedy for the sports fan. Not just the Seattle sports fan. The league whose advertising campaign says it "cares" turned out not to give a crap. No ransom money, no team.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say that I hope David Stern and Clay Bennett burn in hell. Unfortunately, being an atheist (who doesn't actually believe in hell) means I can't derive much evil satisfaction from such a curse. So, maybe I'll just hope that David, Clay, and every heterosexual male who attends a Thunder game this year will have his wife or girlfriend cheat on him, much as the city of Oklahoma City played the role of willing liaison for Bennett's Sonics. I won't wish any unpleasantness on the gay Oklahomans who attend Thunder games this year, because being gay in Oklahoma City is I'm sure punishment enough.

Enjoy it, OKC. At least until all your dirty oil money dries up, and some billionare Green Technology entrepreneurial liberal from Seattle steals your team back in 30 years.
