We're Number One!

Last week, Washington became the first state in the union to approve, by popular vote, same-sex marriage or equivalent civil union rights. Our vote essentially provides everything, but the word "marriage". Still a bit of a slap in the face to gay couples, but at least the logistical discrimination, codified in law, has been ended. So, we're a little bit less biggoted than the rest of the country.

Washington is also a little bit less religious than the rest of the country. Other states with higher proportions of non-believers are in the Northeast, where gay rights have also made significant strides recently. Coincidence?

Yeh, Washington!
